I was up in the area on personal business, but had a few free hours in between. So, I decided to head over to the CSXT River Subdivision and get some logging time over there.

Bergenfield, NJ - QR10.92
South - Q16419 - CSXT657/CSXT664 - 19:19
South - Q25418 - CSXT5388/CSXT5383 - 19:37
South - Q43320 - CSXT5299/UP2736/GECX2876 - 19:53
South - K27720 - CSXT5296/CSXT7687 - 20:09
North - Q40220 - CSXT5394/CSXT595/CSXT6249 - 20:19
North - Q41820 - CSXT8721/BNSF4306 - 20:34

At that point I had to get moving to be somewhere. Not bad in all. K27720 had a new NJTransit Comet VI (NJTR7502) on the hind end. As expected it was traveling under BBRX builder marks. Oh well. Back to work...

Bugger. I took my sons to near Nyack on Sun. PM - was there from around 17.00 - 18.30 and didn't see a single bloody train! Looks like we just missed the evening rush grrrrrr. Bloody trains, fools game. :-D

I was at Iona Island (MP41) from 9:30AM to 1:00PM. I didn't see any trains but there were maintenance crews doing some work up there....and I'm not sure if that caused the slow day.

Monday seems to be slow... I usually go to Iona on Thursdays and see 5, 6, even 7 trains between about 07.00 and 10.30, give or take. Went there yesterday (Monday) and saw three trains... southbounds at 08.00, 09.30, amd 10.30. Don't suppose you were the firefighter railfan I ran into?!

As a general rule, mid day has the least activity on the Riverline. Time is slotted for maintenence and inspections. Early morning and evening work best. From an unscientific point of view (hearing the whistle blow in West Norwood), Thursday mornings have the most activity.

Unfortunately, work will not allow Thursday mornings as an option.

Friday evenings are another option. While weekends see plenty of action it isn't as heavy as mid-week mornings and evenings. I remember running a southbound coming to the Broadway crossing in West Norwood back in the Penn Central days. As the gates came down, I saw a blue car pull up and stop. I clearly saw a fist hitting the steering wheel and instantly recognized the car. It was my Mom! I waved as I went past and she pointed to her watch. She was late for work that day.

Where can I get a current listing of all the Interlocking, control points, and Hot Box detectors for the riverline? Also does anyone have a copy of what i call a Form-d but what CSX uses? Thanks Phase Gap.
