On the Trenton Line, the highest we've seen so far is 5311.

The link above is no good F40. 5301/5302 came in to Beacon Park last Wednesday night into Thursday on Q114 or Q140. The 5303 was also in the engine house Thursday evening.

This is a second group of 100 units. They are going to be numbered 5300-5399.

why does CSX tend to keep 2 GEVO's together on a train? does it just happen, or do they prefer to keep 2 GEVO's together at all times?

Not all of the time. I've seen them paired with AC4400CW's & AC6000CW's and almost any other six axle locomotive. The thing I want to see is a SD70ACe paired with one.

yea i have seen that too, but i guess i should reword my question,

why is it more common to see 2 GEVO's paired together than being paired w/ any other locomotive? instead of a Gevo and a SD70MAC or a ES44DC & SD70ACe

Probably because when they come in groups they tend to stay together for a while untill service and inspections start breaking them up. Last month it was not uncommon to have a GEVO tied to a sd-40 (CSX or rentawreck) going to and from Massena on the Q622/623.

I'd rather have an SD40-2 any day......especially the way these newer engines are (ie computer determining when sand can be dropped, powering down as the engine comes over a large climb while the rest of your mile long train is still strung-out on the mountain.).

Currently all the GEVO's being delivered are RF&P Train control equipped.

All trains on the I-95 corridor that traverse the RF&P (DC to Richmond) must have a Train Control locomotive in the lead. Having GEVO's back to back mean a quicker turn around for the next trip as the engine consist does not have to be turned to have a Train Control leader.

These 2 ES44DC's I photographed today are either brand new or have new coats of paint.

I then photographed another 1 in the middle of a 3 unit lash up.

An AC60CW on the lead.

All of the latest models that CSXT has purchased in the last few years are equipped with cab signal systems that are able to work in various territories (ie RF&P, cab signal only, or cab signal with LSL).
