What can't be seen very well in that photo is the major bow in the frame now. Very likely candidate for scrapping now. Most of the weight was balanced off the rear end of the fuel tank and the lenght of the unit and all the forward weight bent the frame considerably.

What a shame. Thats the same SD80MAC that we got to check out during the CRTS convention at Conway in 1996?

I believe the frame has only been 'stressed' not bent....getting the engine back on even footing will allow the frame to straighten out. Notice that most flatbed trailers, when unloaded, are bowed up.....as the load is placed on the trailer it will flatten out. Same principle applies here. Locomotives are much too valuable to scrap for nickle and dime incidents.....and believe it or not, in the rail industry this qualifies as a 'nickle and dime' incident.

A shame. That was one of Conrail's first EMD AC units...painted with the white stripe on the nose.

This garbage outfit trashes everything it touches. Because they do EVERYTHING on the cheap...hire illiterates because they'll take all the garbage management throws down on them.

The most expensive thing in the world is cheap help, and this story proves it.

Haven't heard anything more. As for how it occurred, pretty obvious that a hostler moved the unit towards the turn-table, but unfortunately the turn-table wasn't lined-up with the same track which the locomotive was on.

What I understand is the unit came in with the brakes not working. Must not have been secured properly and rolled out on its own.

Was outside of Brunswick, MD today on RT340 and saw headlights down the line. Got off onto 180 and pulled over to wait on the train. Consisted of 5 units, of which the second engine was afore mentioned #806. Everything must be working now as she was under power pulling very long mixed freight and rolling LP gasline.
