There doesn't seem to be a forum for ACL/SAL/SCL, so I'm asking this here. I'm looking for detailed information on the milepost prefixes for these lines. I know the general system, and a lot of the designations for the main lines. However I'm missing a lot of the older lines. Does anyone here have information like that?

Also, does anyone have history on the labeling system? When was it first laid out?

And questions about a few specific lines (all ACL for now):
Where was AV? I've found AVB (Kissimmee to Apopka), but no AV. Was A once called AV in that area?
Where was AZ? AZA is the line from Tampa to Sarasota (still used by CSX).

A few things I've noticed since compiling the list below:
I and Q are skipped.
Double letters (like AKK) are skipped.
It appears from the three-letter ones that what's now A was once all two-letter ones (possibly before the ACL and SAL merged). Specifically:
AM Charleston - Savannah
AV Orlando - Plant City?
AZ Plant City? - Port Tampa?

AN could have continued from Jesup to Savannah. Or maybe AS continued from Palatka to Savannah, explaining ASG and company in Jacksonville and ASO in Savannah. AC may have continued from Florence, with ACN in Charleston.

AL* seems to have been used for power plants - at least with ALK and ALR.

Thanks for any information.

before the SCL merger in 1967, there were no "A" or "S" prefixes in front of the mileposts, or on the timetables.

For instance, milepost A880.1 on the SCL or CSX would have been milepost 880.1 on the ACL

same as milepost AZA 886.3 on CSX would have been ZA 886.3 on the ACL

same for the SAL.

If you have specific questions as to which mileposts were on which lines, I can answer that, although SPUI did a pretty good job for the ACL side
