Of course, it won't tell you which ones are in New England. That can change pretty frequently. I recall that shortly after the merger, my father who lived in Jacksonville at the time commented that the place was overrun with Conrail blue...at times there were sloid sets of CR units to be found, while up here in Boston we were seeing solid sets of CSXT widecabs.

Most of the GP40-2's in New England (and system wide) are original CSXT (ex Chessie and Seaboard) units. The 4400 series are ex-CR GP40-2s, while the whole 6000 series (all the way up into the 6900's) are the former CSXT units. I believe many of these had already had cab signals installed for the ex-RF&P in Virginia.

F40, he is right, go to that CSX loco site, you can search to see what units are in "Dark Future" or the old CSX paint or even in Con-rail. I believe I sent you the link before, but try it.

Just as information, where you are you will only see the 6200 series
GP40-2's not the 6900's, because they are equipped with the proper cab signal system and assigned to the Albany Division. Like we discussed last night, in Attleboro and Mansfield, you are likely to see less variety since not many of these units have the A.C.S.E.S. equipment to permit them to work on Amtrak's N.E.C.

I know for sure that the 6210, 6214, and 6223 are in Dark future.

Here is a llist of the engines that I know off tyhe top of my head that are A.C.S.E.S. equipped:

6204, 6209, 6210, 6211, 6213, 6215, 6227

Who would have ever thought a bunch of ex-B&O and WM GP40s would be running around SE Mass on former New Haven branches, and ducking out of the way for 150 MPH passenger trains? :wink:

As someone who spent part of his youth in Jacksonville watching CSX's pig trains get dragged around by what were then the "big boats" (B30-7's and B36-7's in packs of four), all the CR B-23-7's were cool to see when I got to New England. However, I would be that most of the trains crews were happy to see CSXT bring in the GP40-2's to replace all the old GE's. But it did mean that the CR image dissappeared awfully quickly.

I guess it could have been even more drastic a change though...CSX could have brought in the hordes of MP15 that you see down south!

OCTR, over the past year there have been a few B23-7's that made their way East of Selkirk on a few occasions. W.Springfield had a B23-7R (rebuild) in the Dark Future paint scheme, #3185 for a month or 2. Others made their way down toward Readville for awhile (5834, 5836, 5837, 5838) all in CSX paint scheme. And back in November the 3187 worked in Readville for close to 3 months (still in Conrail Quality paint).

Seems that whenever these engines came from Selkirk to work in Framingham, the guys in Framingham seemed to send them to Readville in exchange for a GP40-2.

775-789 are the ex-Conrail SD70MAC's. The 8700's are the SD60's.

You mentioned the 8700-series SD60 units. Don't forget that CSX #8700 - 8709 were always CSX units, while the former Conrail SD60 units were numbered from CSX #8710 and upward.
