I caught one on the back of a CSX freight on the NEC a few months ago. There's too much graffiti to tell what the number is, though.

Plus the Dover, New Jersey drill (H02) has a shared assets caboose they run with, mainly to one of their chemical plant pick ups, though it does get to washington now and then.

Don't know the caboose number.

There are three cabeese in Oak Point (Bronx), but I dont know what state of repair they are in. I know one was used on a regular basis to assist on a shove move out to the New York Post plant. Past that, I'm not certain.

I saw a few from an NEC Train I was on in August around Trenton.

One still haunts the Washington Court House, Ohio area. The Indiana and Ohio uses it for long backup moves in switching customers in the area - along with a ex DT&I caboose.

I think here we're talking about actual Conrail cabooses still in use on NS, CSX, or Shared Assetts... not former Conrail hacks sold to foreign roads.

There's actually one used as a shoving platform on the NS local H5A that runs from South Philly up the Trenton Cutoff. It's in pretty good condition too.

The only thing it assists is saving the company $$. By having a caboose or shoving platform on the rear, the conductor does not get the arbitrary of two hours pay for riding the side of the rear car while protecting the move for more than a mile. :P

One in Toledo Ohio not certain of the # but NS uses it for a backup move across the Maumee River

what a ride that would be without a caboose?

One (maybe two) in use in Sharonville Ohio & another in Middletown Ohio.

Don't know the numbers - I see the sharonville one on my way into work once in a while (at 11 o'clock at night) & one of the guys in our operting group works for NS & uses the one in Middletown.

Wonder what happened to the one in Marion that was repainted into E-L red livery with a NYC number? Wonder if it's still in use up there? Last time I saw it was in 1999 or 2000 if memory serves me correctly.

Just came back from the Bronx, 21244 and 21254 were the only cabooses in sight.
