Canadian Pacific has a yard at Whyte (82nd) Avenue and 103rd street in Edmonton AB. Road power for trains coming up from Calgary is often big GEs, but for switching they have been using (since I got to Edmonton last year) a set of an SD-40-2 and a rebuilt GP-9. Yesterday (24 May 2010) I saw a variant (not in use, but parked near the yard office where the switcher set has often been when not in use): rebuilt GP-9 coupled to a "Red Barn" SD40-2F.

So I guess the "Draper Taper" is paying for itself: looking back might not be TOO important in mainline service, but in a switcher backward visibility would be very desirable.
