Another Re-acquisition For CN - SkiTrain

Looks like another re-acquisition for CN. First it was short-line railways bought back. Now it former CN passenger cars.

The Denver Ski Train is coming back to Canada. CN is acquiring the equipment for their Algoma Central Railway subsidiary......probably for the Agawa Canyon Tour Train and Snow Train.

Hawker Siddeley built the cars in 1968 for CN’s new “Tempo” service in southwestern Ontario between Toronto, Windsor and Sarnia. The cars eventually went to VIA and ran through to Chicago in joint service with Amtrak on the International before going to Colorado.

CN (TSX: CNR)(NYSE: CNI) and the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corp. (SSMEDC) announced today an agreement to acquire locomotives and passenger cars to re-equip the Agawa Canyon Tour Train that runs north of The Sault into spectacular Canadian Shield country.

CN, the operator of the tour train, is acquiring three Electro-Motive F-40 locomotives, eight coaches, two café/lounge cars, three club cars and a presentation coach from Ansco Investment Company of Denver, Colo.

Its weird that the same colors will be kept, or will they be repainted?

It would not be the first time for Rio Grande painted rolling stock on the Algoma Central.

Interesting that the F40's come with the deal. It might have been a take it / leave it package deal, but I cannot imagine CN wanting more locomotives now. CN is already storing newer power in this recession. OTOH, you've now got captive HEP power rather than freight power.

Any word on the fate of the current rolling stock?

saw a small ad ina newspaper over the weekend shoing the new train, same paint job...so looks llike the redo is not started yet

Any word on the new equipment for the ACR trains? A repaint perhaps, and word on where the old passenger cars are going?

So how did the "new" equipment perform this past season and what refurbishments are going to take place??? What will be the disposition on the previous equipment that the "Ski Train" replaced?? I understand the domes are to be refurbished as well. Is this correct?? Thanks in advance for your reply.
