Hey guys, I saw this post on a Facebook group, and want to know how true this is, and if it is, what route will it take, and if anyone knows more about these moves, know what times they will leave? Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the area, but is it weird that BNSF would bring them to Memphis, hand them over to CN, and have CN bring them to CP in Chicago, rather than BNSF just bringing them straight to Chicago and handing them directly to CP? Or is there some logic/advantage that I'm missing?

This can best be answered in the BNSF Forum, so I'm moving it there :)

It all seems strange. CP has retired so many of its own SD40-2s, but has been leasing so many rent a wreck SD40s. Some are former CP units. There is even supposedly an order for new ES4400s.

I was thinking the same thing, as I remember CP having a huge fleet of SD40-2s at one time, but retired them. Could it be that CP is experiencing a surge of traffic that necessitated the purchase of these BNSF SD40-2s? Why not lease instead of purchase, if it is only for a short while? Could it be that CP is following in CN's footsteps (in that CN purchased UP C40-8s and BNSF C40-8Ws)?

Thats bs. I got on the mechanical screen (I am a BNSF engineer) and typed in the first few of the first list. A couple were in CA and the rest are scattered around the system. Most of them are actually still in service. As an example the BNSF 1957 is in Aberdeen SD and under comments it says '' hold in Aberdeen assigned to work train service''. On 8/3 the supposed date of this power move the BNSF 1957 was assigned to train H-NTWKCK4-03A. Not sure if the post was a total hoax or what.

I typed this in a search engine a few days ago and found several discussions at various forums where this was debunked as completely false information.

Wherever it originated from, it was a total hoax.

Go figure. I had a feeling it was not true, so I didnt miss out on anything then. Thank you both for following up and researching on this, whoever posted this false information on Facebook is on my black list. So all these engines are still with BNSF and NOT sold correct?

I've heard that somewhere there is a foamer that posts incredibly detailed but false reports of motive power transactions. Because of the detailed nature, we take it for the truth. Some similar reports showed up on the forum in different railroad sections over the last few months.
