Browsing through the 1987 magazine scans I discovered that the Metroliners reached 164 mph in testing-a feat not even accomplished by Acela Express. Great cars.
Acela Express reached a little above 168 mph in tests, actually.
With a few improvements, the Metroliner MUs would have been a far better rail vehicle, I suspect. They were a forerunner to the ICE III, whether Deutschland wants to admit that or not...
