The Emergency Planning Committee in Roosevelt County said in a news release that it happened on Friday morning on Highway 2 at mile marker 653, at a crossing with no crossing arms.
The Montana Highway Patrol was notified of the collision at 10:49 a.m.
The man operating the sprayer died, according to officials. His name has not yet been released.
The Amtrak train has 10 cars derailed with numerous injuries reported; the injured passengers have been taken to Culbertson High School for triage.
