NS West Slope Radio reception

Post by RMB357 » Wed Aug 21, 2019 12:01 am

In the last few months between Cresson and Johnstown PA the radio reception has been horrible. This is on the net and on location with good radios. Anyone have an idea what is going on?

May have upgraded to "narrowband" repeaters,so the scanner needs to spot on the freq. to listen in.
Not sure if NS does "split freqs",ie DS uses a different freq to the train, train uses different freq back to DS.
Also local geography can effect range of radio signals.

Older scanners do have "fits" picking up Narrowband radios.

Thank you, that is possible since they have been working on the PTC and can signal's. It actually almost sounded as if the repeater was down but I do have a Kenwood receiver that does split the frequency in half. Thanks again for the response
