I just tried dcraw on my Windows machine after reading about it in a post on this board by spRocket.
I have to say it does do a much better job processing RAW files than the Canon software!
I compared the same image processed by the two different applications and this is what I found:
A 48bit TIF produced by the Canon FVU (File viewer utility) had 47188 less pixels than a 48bit PSD file produced by dcraw!
