We have an RS1 which needs a lot of TLC...having recently acquired new batteries, we're trying to get 'er running. One major problem is that at any speed faster than a walk, we get a ground fault and everything comes to a halt. Realizing that there are numerous places that this could be occuring, none of us (volunteer and amateur) fixer-uppers have the information to help up start to unravel the problem. Anyone with experience in these old Alcos shed some light on the troubleshooting procedure? Any help appreciated!

a ground fault is in the high voltage system, the Generator or one of the 4 traction motors, if not try reverser or power contactors.
my guess a carbon brush pigtail hanging loose in one of traction motors, specially since it happens at very low speeds.
