Here is an “official” report on the five LSRC Alcos which were recently sold. I was one of the potential buyers for the RS-2 469 and was working directly with the Locomotive Superintendent Allen Pinder when another company offered to buy all five locos as a package. After the transaction was completed, I contacted the buyer to inquire as to what his plans are for the locos, and obtained his permission to pass this information on to this LSRC newsgroup. The 469, 974, 975, 698, and 3575 were all purchased by Spencer Garrett of the Waymore Power Company of Piasa,Illinois. This company specializes in Alco engine rebuilding and servicing for railroad and marine applications. Alcophiles should visit their website for some very interesting and detailed technical information (www.waymorepower.com). Since he is an Alco engine specialist, Mr. Garrett is undaunted by the mechanical woes of the various locos. He plans on restoring 469, 974, and 975 to operable units and then will offer them as lease units or even for sale.

As for the 381, I think it has bad traction motors. I know for a fact the 3504 needs 2 replaced and i believe thats whats up with the 3515 too.

NOW.. heres the OFFICAL word from the LSRC ALL C425MAC's will be gone by 2009 and the remaining M420's during 2009. they will be an all EMD railroad.

Normally I wouldn't post things or say things that aren't set in stone.. but actions do speak louder than words and the ALCOs are leaving quickly...
GET YOUR PICTURES NOW!!!

Please stay tuned to my LSRC site for future updates as I will keep it updated as things happen. Just added a page for the newest GP40M-3 which arrived last week.

quick update on the Alcos and MLW's. MLW's 798 and 3500 seem to be the only two M420W's active now. 3515 and 3504 may both be down for the count. C425MAC's 181 and 1280 are active but I believe stations out of Saginaw Currently. C425M's 281 and 381 are working as a pair on the North end former D&M trackage and sound great.

I notice that Waymore Powers' customer list is primarily marine. In fact, I see no reference to rail applications. I hope that Waymore intends to utilize these as locomotives and not parts for marine applications. That would be a sad end to these.

I think it was stated elsewhere that they will repair the locomotives and either lease them or sell them. Waymore already does rebuilds for the railroad industry. The A&M is a big customer.

BTW, according to sources close to the Lake States situation, they don't have any possible buyers for any of the remaining Alco/MLW locomotives at this time.
