There are at least a few historic diesels in the area that are operable and could be leased for fantrip service. That would of course not be within Steamtown's "mission statement", but then the excursions operate mostly outside the boundaries of the park. It would not be the first time that Steamtown has been operated as Dieseltown.

Remember the statement by a railcamp student to his sponsoring NRHS chapter that was mentioned here in the past: "They talked and talked and talked about steam locomotives, then whenever they needed to do something they started up the diesel". Yes, the railroads discovered that way of doing things a long time ago.

They could claim to be re-enacting the steam to diesel transition.

They were able to make repairs so 3254 was able to do the viaduct trip as well as a previous Moscow trip. Steamtown made changes to the excursions to avoid this problem by letting 3254 run back light and the returning excursion is pulled by 514 by itself. There is no ability to turn 3254 on the line so this is their best solution.

We did the East Stroudsburg excursion and 3254 went back by itself. Unfortunately a week after this trip, the Dansbury Depot burned. That might throw a clincher into next years planned excursions.

From what I hear #26 is close to being operable again. It had a total rebuild done so it will be operable for years.
