ATTN: N.R.H.S. 2006 Buckeye Rails Convention Visitors

The Northern Ohio Railway Museum invites you to visit our facilities following the Buckeye Rails convention. We are opening up special for N.R.H.S. visitors on Sunday, July 23 from 10am to 5pm. Northern Ohio Railway Museum is a museum of electric railways focusing on Ohio’s rich traction heritage.

We will be conducting guided walking tours of the museum facilities. During the tour you will see a very comprehensive collection of Ohio interurban, streetcar and rapid transit equipment. We have the largest collection of cars and artifacts from the famous Lake Shore Electric Interurban. 18 cars of the 32 car collection are housed indoors in two carhouses. You will have an opportunity to see restoration work that is underway. Plans are to periodically run our operable equipment for photo and demonstration purposes. This last item subject to change based on weather conditions, etc. We regret that we cannot offer rides on our demonstration railroad at this time.

We also are open for guided tours every Saturday from 10am to 2pm until Labor Day Weekend. Other days and times for tours are possible but are based on volunteer availability. The July 23 and Saturday open house times are open to anyone, not just N.R.H.S. participants. There is no charge for this or any open house times, but donations are always gratefully accepted.

On Friday, July 21, the museum is conducting a seminar at the convention on Ohio Interurbans. Special attention is being given to the Northern Ohio Traction and Light Company. This is the interurban that served the convention city of New Philadelphia, Ohio. Presenting the seminar are Dr. Allan Hall and Dr. Stephen Hambley. Dr. Hall wrote his Masters Thesis on the N.O.T. &L. Dr. Hambley is currently a Medina County, Ohio Commissioner and wrote his Doctorate Dissertation on the N.O.T. &L. This will be a program not to miss. Flyers with directions to the museum will be available at the convention and the seminar.
