Dose any one know what company has the kits to repower Athearn locomotive and how well do they work?

Ernst had regear kits to slow down locos.
A good can motor helps without regearing.

Years ago, put can motors (Mashima, tho those offered by NWSL are quality) and Ernst regearing into 2 Athern S-12s. They run smooth, slow, and pull like gangbusters. Just recently added a DCC decoder to one.
Watch size -- width and depth -- of replacement motor, and shaft dia. to re-use flywheels.
