Friday, March 28, at 4:30 PM Eastern time, Turner Classic Movies broadcast the 1930 film "Danger Lights"; it is one of three early '30's movies that, IMO, best showcase railroads. (The other two are "Other Men's Women" from 1931, and the original 1934 "Silver Streak", starring the Burlington's Pioneer Zephyr.) All three have typical melodrama plots of the day, but the railroad action is central, and generally authentic. "Danger Lights" was filmed on location in Montana, on the Milwaukee Road. Lots of steam action (ever see a tug-of-war between two mainline steam locomotives?), authentic working roundhouse scenes, and a dynamometer car. Well worth watching; I've seen it before on TV, but TCM's is the best print I've seen.
