He used none other than Truman's campaign train for his own, and he knew the word "truck"...yep, it sure would have been great to have a railfan for president! :-D

This isn't about a famous railroad guy, just a famous guy who liked railroads...close enough IMO.

Yeap, and he was not alone. His former "partner in crime" aka governor of Mass, Michael Dukakis, was an employee executive for Amtrak....he was into railroading as well.

FYI Kerry was Dukaki's Lieutenant Governor in the 1980's, some 20 years ago.

You said that John Kerry WAS a railfan.

Did he do the railfan thing to help get elected, or did he "pass on"?

Or, possibly both?

I guess we need to have Dan Rather do an investigative report on John Kerry's days as a railfan.

Did he show up trackside or didn't he?

Maybe they have some documents from Mike Dukakis that would help answer this important question!

I wish he had gotten elected...not only would we have a smart President, but Amtrak would be in a better situation as well!

Just another reason that 'idiot' shouldn't of been re-elected!

That's the kind of railfan we DON'T need. During the campaign photos were circulated of him balancing on the ball of the rail. Maybe he "likes trains" but I doubt he's a serious railfan.

Hate to burst everyones bubbles but just because he used a train in his campaign doesn't make him a railfan. Many other Presidential wannabes have used trains, it's common practice over the last few decades. George H. W. Bush used a train in his campaign yet you aren't calling him a railfan. So didn't Harry Truman. It's common practice to use a train, regardless of how much you think they like or hate trains.
