With the CNJ Passenger Trains I saw pics of GP-7s pulling typically 5 or 6 cars including an occasional combine. Were there ever any diners or club cars in the mix heading down to Bay Head or out to Allentown from Jersey City?

How many passenger cars max did the CNJ RS-1s pull? did those RS-1s also go as far to Allentown and Bay Head with 6 cars or less? Were the RS-1s more powerful then those GPs?

I read somewhere that the maximum consist for the GP-7's was seven cars. Any longer and they were double-headed MU'ed. Mid-day and locals were usually GP-7 or H-15-44 power.

The RS-1s were 1200 hp and the GP-7s were 1000 hp. Very few RS units worked passenger service on the NY&LB, it was either GP-7 or FM H-15-44 "Baby Trainmasters" or H-24-66 Trainmasters. Most RS passenger jobs were west to Allentown. They had about the same capacity as the Geeps.

CNJ Jersey Shore local freight service was mostly RS-3s. Later years saw SD-35 and SD-40 power down the Southern Division, with a couple RS-3s on the NY&LB. Fairbanks-Morse H-15-44 were run in local freight service until they finally wore out in the early 1960s.

More than just typoes here. The RS-1s were used in freight service, usually on the Southern Division. The passenger RS-3s in the 1500 series were 1600 HP. The 1700 series RS-3s were freight units, again 1600 HP.

The GP-7s were 1500 HP, while the RS-1s were only 1000.

Other than the Blue Comet did the CNJ ever have any other diner service in the 20th century?

In both the Jan. 1930 and Oct. 1937 Official Guides, the Harrisburg Special and Queen of the Valley each had a Club-Diner car both directions. I don't know when they stopped that service on those runs.
