Is there any information on the track consolidation that was proposed in 1965 and took place later. It would probably be a link to a government web site. I am interested in how they arrived at their recomendations.

You might find maps at a govt website, but the decision-making process would more likely be found in a history of either RR. Unfortunately, none of them discuss who decided the combined route and why they did it.

This is just conjecture on my part, but the idea may have come from Perry Shoemaker, who was CNJ's president during that time. He had participated in the DL&W/Erie consolidation a decade earlier as president of DL&W.
