Would you mind to let us know more about this? Thanks in advance.
Well Railsimulator is out since a long time. Replaced by Railworks (via Steam) in June 2009.

Trainz 2009 appeared as well...

MSTS1 + MSTS bin patch still runs very well.

Openrails just started up... sounds interesting...

other rr sim games:
- train dispatcher (http://www.softrail.com/railsof.html) 45 US$
- GRS NX panels (http://www.tinyurl.com/signaltower) about 27 US$
- BVE simulator (http://www.railserve.com/Computers/BVE/) free
- Zusi (http://www.zusi.de) good demo, great simulator about 60$ or so.

That is the exact one that the topic is about. After making MSTS in conjunction with microsoft KUJU had differences with them about the second installment and left the partnership with microsoft. This got Electronic arts attention who was looking to get on on the rail simulator rush. After almost a year in development they came out with rail simulator. At the time it was the biggest competition out there for trainz as the two were way ahead of MSTS as far as 3d apects. Its one of the best out there.

As far as graphics are concerned both Railsimulator/Railworks, and Auran Trainz are graphically stunning. However when you add railroad operations, in that department MSTS is still regarded as superior ( despite it's relative age in the marketplace ). In order to capture the MSTS market share ( quality routes are still being produced and sold, even in 2010 ), the folks making Railworks and Trainz need to concentrate on the operational aspect of the game.

Once that happens I'll be on the first to line up to buy one of the two games produced currently.

Openrails has promise, in it being open source and compatible with MSTS content.
