A Cultural Note:
Trains have been notorious in Japan for being places where men have had inappropriate contact with their fellow female passengers. While I was there (1998 - 2000), the JR companies, with JR East - which serves the Tokyo area - in particular, runing a campaign to stop the groping. However, they had to take the step of putting women in seperate, "women only" cars (carriages).
