Any reason why these specific guidelines weren't followed on the Amtrak 35 years topic locked in the last hour? It's a topic that will OBVIOUSLY have heated opinions. Those people who don't want to read such postings can easily avoid iit. People have opinions. Locking topics just because people express them doesn't make the opinions go away. It just makes it less likely that anybody will change their minds about anything.

UPDATE: There's now an explanatory note. Still, I see no reason to stop the discussion. Sure, people are arguing from their heart. Would anybody have it any other way?

You'll have to ask the moderator. Discussion and debate are fine. Attacking an idea is one thing, attacking a person is not allowed.
