I've been travelling down I-81 Southbound for years and this has been bugging me.

There is a while tank car on very rusty rails that can be seen parallel to the I-81 Southbound lane just before the Exit 124A/B where PA Route 61 heads towards Frackville.

You can also see it on Google Earth. Looks like it was near some sort of former rail customer.

I can't safely pullover to take a photo or write down the car ID.

Anyone know what this car is and why it's been sitting there for at least the past 12 years?

It is on a property that appears to possibly be some sort of fire training facility at the end of Firemans Road (aptly named). Could it possibly be used for some sort of training purposes?
There is no obvious evidence of any railroad ROW, intact or abandoned, in that immediate vicinity. Reading & Northern is on the opposite side of town.

Thank you for pointing out it's within a fire department training facility. That would explain the lack of tracks.

A 12 year question finally answered!

The biggest clue from the aerial view is that there's absolutely no trace whatsoever of a railroad right of way ever having been there (and those things last forever).

You are correct. The tank car is used for fire department training. It is on the grounds of the Schuylkill County Fire Training Center.
