Hey everyone, longtime lurker, and this is my first post. Every now and then I read a reference to a D&H Challenger tender in storage at Oneonta at some point in the past (possibly as a water tank?) Does anyone have followup information to this? Does it still exist, and if not, when was it scrapped? I've driven past the yard there but never noticed anything out of the ordinary.

I dont know about it ever being in Oneonta..perhaps it was at some point, but it is better known for having been in Binghamton..
when CP took over the D&H in 1991 they used it for a time as a water tank in the East Binghamton yard..
It is tender number 35508, said to be from Challenger No. 1517.

CP then fixed it up, painted it, and used it as part of their steam program!

Actually, I am curious if this was in Oneonta until perhaps the early 90's..because I visited the East Binghamton yards several time during the Guilford era, mid to late 80's,
and I dont recall ever hearing about, or seeing, the tender there then..

There are no other pics of it that I can locate in http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/ as far as recent ones I searched both the CP and the D&H photo pages here.

Interesting. The slide at the bottom shows the tender with the number 35507. The other pictures of it (before the CP steam paint) show the number 35508. Maybe the D&H saved
more than one.
