Sounds familiar. It takes time to make more ballots, especially if you have to come up with over 50 of them.

Former Ulster County Legislator John Parete has recaptured the seat in District 22, according to the county Board of Elections.

That means the outcome of a single close race — the one in District 4 — will decide which party controls the 23-member lawmaking body next year.

Parete, a Boiceville Democrat who ran on the Republican line, led incumbent Democrat Kathy Nolan by 21 votes once all absentee ballots were counted Tuesday. (Parete led by 43 votes at the end of Election Day.)
Article goes on to explain one more race is to be counted where a Dem held a 28 vote advantage on election day. Depending on who wins there either side could have a 12-11 majority. Also has some comments from Nolan why she thinks she lost. Good riddance.

Hopefully what it means for the CMR is the last of the major obstacles is removed. Don't know what Parete's position is though.

In the last race, a CMRR supporter won and a trail supporter lost. There should be at least 7 strong rail supporters in the new legislature, up from 4 in the current legislature. And our most vocal opponent is now out of the legislature. This will hopefully bode well for the CMRR to extend up to the current end of track at MP 10.01, which is 1.68 miles west of the current permit limit at MP 8.33.
