Pertaining to all railroading subjects, past and present, in New Jersey

As we enter another season of political conventions, a question came up about the last time Atlantic City hosted a major political convention.

By 1964 passenger rail service to and from Atlantic City was already reduced (and would get worse), and Atlantic City had lost some of it's luster as a resort (which would also get worse).

What special services did the PRSL, and it's parents (Pennsylvania and Reading) run for the 1964 convention ?

In 1964 the capacity was still there as Union Terminal was still in use as a rail station (that would end in the winter of'65).

It is worth noting that after the fact, this was the major convention that Atlantic City wished it had not hosted, as the national spotlight focused on how badly things had deteriorated.

Thanks

Also keep in mind the A.C. Expressway was built in 1964 (with the section east of the Parkway to Atlantic City complete by 1965). If anything, the 1964 Convention was probably the "last hurrah" for passenger service (until 1989).
