Old Y? between Seaside Pk and Toms River

Following the old ROW from google maps from Seaside Pk across the bay to Ocean Gate and Pine Beach along what is Atlantic ave you will come to a baseball field. It seems here there is a complete Y around it and a ROW seems to head north along Station St. across another waterway toward Island Heights. What was the history of this ROW/branch? Was there a station in Island Heights? It seems you would run right into RT 37 if you kept going North along the old ROW/West End street. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

There was a wye there, connecting to a drawbridge to the Island Heights station. PRR trains backed over the bridge to the station. There were money and favors involved, to get a draw to a single station. There is a detailed history to this, I'll look for it. I'm sure someone else here will add to it as well.

Island Heights used to be a large and important Methodist Camp and Summer Resort Area (back in the days when they could run just a seasonal train).

Go to http://www.islandheights.net/index.php/ ... train-stop for pictures of the station and trestle. The track basically terminated there by the station.
