WW&F Victorian Christmas

Hey Everybody,

Now that there is a lot of snow here on the ground in Maine, I am glad to say that the WW&F can run steam this weekend, on December 22nd, starting at 10 a.m. The steam engine always pulls the trains, however, some years we don't have snow for the Victorian Christmas trains. Please be sure to attend this wonderfull event, the cars are heated, snow covering everything, steam hanging around in the air. The event is held for free, and donations are always welcome. There are refreshements such as hot chocolate, coffee, and various snacks that can be found in the gift shop as well. Sleigh rides, or wagon rides are provided at Alna Center as well, providing a true and authentic 1900's experience of a Maine Winter in the town of Alna when the WW&F was still running trains.

The above video is picking up the caboose in Bay 2, note how the engine sounds like a Durango & Silverton engine at 00:32.

The above video is moving the caboose outside of Bay 2 of the engine house. The caboose was soon dropped due to the trucks dragging in the snow.

Here are some more videos taken by my dad this past weekend of the WW&F's Victorian Christmas. We ran a double headed plow extra with the diesel and steam engine. In one of the videos, we ran the steam engine by itself, however, the first time the rails were to icy, so we had to have a diesel assist in bringing us the rest of the 3/4 of a mile back to Sheepscot, and then the second time we ran out of steam 3 times on the way to Alna Center, however, no videos were made of the steam engine running out of steam. Other than the videos, the only other true experience to capture the dramatic sights and sounds of the steam and diesel engine working hard in the snow. The temperature was only 4 degrees, when we left Sheepscot with the plow extra, and the high for the day was about 15 degrees, so the day was perfect for producing steam.
