Granby Connecticut police Facebook mentions a series of large turbine
deliveries being trans loaded at Bradley Airport, for road delivery to
Oxford, CT. Mentions 20 axle rail car use. Anyone know the route up
to the spur in Windsor Locks?

B&A is definitely clear for special moves; they've done many electrical transformer moves between Selkirk and Framingham.

On Springfield Line they haven't started constructing the new Enfield station yet, so Springfield to the junction in Windsor Locks has no platforms to pass. They'd just have to survey for the usual stuff in the clearance envelope of a special ultra-wide move: bridge abutments, retaining walls, signal masts, trackside signage, etc. Then figure out if they're temporarily taking down signs or unbolting masts to lean them to the side, or have to pause and shift the load to pass a bridge abutment or side girder.

Sounds like a heck of a move, if you get more info please share. Still, sounds like it would be hard to get pics since it would be at night and where they're changing over doesn't afford a lot of photo opportunities. In any event, just came on to say that similar moves have been made before over the years, with the high wide coming down CSOR through Hartford yard (don't believe it stopped there). Kind of feel like CNZR may have done something similar once in the past as well.

Some local jurisdictions report the super move has been delayed until '1/20', which I presume meant 2/20. I'm guessing an extended d-day-ish weather forecast is needed before invading the streets with the mega mover. I presume the train delivery to Bradley airport is delayed as well.

You skipped a railroad - CP switches the GE plant and likely will bring the car down to Albany and hand off to CSX who will take to Selkirk.

Unfortunately the article in my local paper only had the road route it's taking from Windsor Locks to Oxford, not the rail route to get to Windsor Locks,although it did imply it was coming from the port in New Haven. It's paywalled anyway.

GE Schenectady is the builder of the turbines being delivered. They have a press release from a few years back detailing the sale to the Towantic Power station. Delivering to Windsor Locks via New Haven would require transit through several Amtrak stations, including Hartford, and bring the NEC catenary into play. Doesn't make sense. Perhaps the reference is to the 'New Haven line' but meaning Springfield, MA southward. Paywalls - meh.

Or maybe it will not leave the railhead until Monday 27 Feb...http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/loca ... 19213.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Drove by the airport Saturday. Saw a tanker parked near the end of the spur (probably deicing fluid) but no generator. In hindsight I didn't check the yard east of Ella Grasso Blvd.

Seems to be on the move now, if possibly delayed by weather.

Tuesday around 9 p.m., the super load will move south on Route 10, also known as Hopmeadow Street into Avon. State police will escort it.

Hopmeadow Street will be closed between West Street and Stratton Brook Road between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m.

The road will be closed while the bridge that crosses Hop Brook is prepared to handle the transport. No traffic will be allowed to cross the bridge.

However, the move may be affected by the weather.

Police said it could be rescheduled for Wednesday night because rain is in the forecast for Tuesday.
