Where is the dirty-dirt being sent to? How thorough is the cleanup? Wherever it is being sent will have to be cleaned up in a few generations.

EPA doesn't allow moving it from one problem area and re-dumping it in another problem area. If it goes, it has to be remediated somewhere. There are companies across the country that make their living cleaning up dirty dirt so it can be used again for other things. These cars would eventually be making their way to one of those facilities.

Track was extended to allow the dirt train to have 3 engines on it eventually.

Indeed! Just now I saw three PAR engines hauling the dirt cars south on one of the tracks that heads behind BET toward the Fitchburg route.

Not sure where it's going, but I do know it's being handed off to CSX via POSE... saw a POSE with a dozen or more dirty dirt gons at Barbers yesterday.

Most of the dirt is going in a landfill in NH. The really bad stuff is going to secure landfills in NY and either Ontario or Quebec.

Looks like that's all folks for the dirt trains at the casino site. The tracks / switch / frog / bunter are still in place as before, but the tracks for approx. 25 yards on either side of the old Monsanto crossing have been covered over with fill (looks like just dirt / soil).

I'm bumping this thread because I have a question about the dredging phase of the casino cleanup, which is happening now. On Marine Traffic, the tug Brahma appears to be moving a barge with the dredge spoils from the casino "harbor" to SPS construction's facility on the Island End River, next to the track that runs to Ciment Quebec and the scrap yard.

Their web page mentions access to rail. Does anyone know how the spoils are being processed and shipped out? I doubt they are using rail, but had to ask!

According to this article from September 2017, all dredged material will be shipped out via barge.

Wynn will be mechanically dredging about 14,080 cubic yards of contaminated sediment from the waterway over an area of 190,780 sq. ft. As part of the dredging, they will be placing about 21,130 cubic yards of clean fill on the dredged area. That will create an 18-inch thick remediation cap on the bottom of the area.

Wynn will be using barges to gather the materials and will ship them out on barges to a facility that handles contaminated sea soils. Wynn has said, and maintained in its permit, that they would not be using trucks to haul away the dredged materials.

Maybe by barge to New Bedford dewatering plant? I was in New Bedford a couple weeks ago and there seemed to be more than the usual number of gondolas. The yard was full as was the siding past the wye. The trackmobile was out in front of the plant.

A distinct possibility. I believe under the original EPA New Bedford Harbor Superfund plan, the City of New Bedford would take ownership of the dewatering plant, bulkhead and rail spur after the EPA was done with the project. Has this occurred and the City now owns the plant and is soliciting contaminated soils? Or is Wynn paying the EPA to dewater their contaminated soil at the New Bedford site?

Nope....The activity is all sludge work from the harbor, which is winding down for another season.
