Some of you may know Fred Hirsch, long-time director of Maine's chapter of Operation Lifesaver.

Fred passed away yesterday.

His contributions to railroad safety will not be forgotten.

I think it was just a few weeks ago that Operation Lifesaver Inc. posted a photo on Facebook of state coordinators at a conference, and Fred was front-and-center.
Fred was a nice guy, and very dedicated to Maine OL.

I first met Fred 15 years ago when he, Emmons Lancaster, and a couple of other Maine OL volunteers were at a fair in Portland with the Maine OL caboose. He was indeed a very nice guy, and extremely devoted to the cause of railroad safety.
