You might want to rethink this after fully reading ths article.

"Former Palmer Redevelopment Authority Chairman Blake E. Lamothe has been fined $5,000 by the state Ethics Commission for a conflict of interest law violation for participating in matters affecting the former Union Station, where he runs the Steaming Tender restaurant."

Ok, I read the article. I certainly didn't see any "evil plotting" there. So he continued trying to revitalize the area and open up Palmer for PAX service. The fine of $5,000.00 was basically a slap on the wrist for someone in his business, certainly not "punitive," more like a transaction fee than anything else- and he PAID it! He didn't fight or squabble over it, he didn't yammer or stammer, he fessed up and paid out. That says a LOT about someone in his position these days!
I had already voted before I read the article, I'm not going to try to go back and change my vote.

When I think of ethical lapses Massachusetts readily comes to mind. Massachusetts casinos have also been an interesting topic for watchers of ethical issues.

Apparently he was warned about the potential conflict of interest and did not walk carefully. Not a whole lot of additional info on this.

My judgement is in favor of the Steaming Tender.

Disclaimers:
Mass native who left as soon as I could (1983 when the Navy took me to income tax-free FL)(not that I have done much better in my current home state of CT). As a CT resident I do not support Mass developing casinos. I like watching trains.

If you read the highlighted articles within the story plus many others unrelated to this issue, you'll get an idea of the bigger picture. Would I like to see Palmer have a passenger stop? Of course. Friends I have in Palmer are very aware of his way of conducting himself and his businesses. The general consensus is that he was seeking public money to accomplish RPS at the expense of the taxpayer to improve his property and thence increase his restaurant business. Public taxpayer money cannot be used to enhance a private business in this way. People were very alarmed by this and made their thoughts known to the Palmer Town Council. That concept was also part of the formula for the actions taken by town officials to censure him. He was acting without proper authority.
