Make that 4 units including the two just repaired. On the ALCOdiesel list, one person says that all Alcos have ordered to be shut down and returned to Utica. This is UNconfirmed!
I received that message as well. That does seem more substantive as more sources of information are claiming it true. There had been some prior discussion of this between the two railroads but nothing was firm. I'm still a bit skeptical until it is "set in stone."

Who issued this order on the NYSW?

There is a post on the NY State forum that Ontario Central 418 is in transit, last noted being brought into Geneva by the Finger Lakes Railway.

Does anyone know if these Alcos will be re-numbered? If so, what series will be used for the 6-axle units?

At this point, anything could happen. I'd guessing they will be in the 600 series, more specifically 632-639. I'm not sure they own them just yet. Time will tell.

To those people living in the Binghamton area:
Please let us know of any new developments regarding the 6-axle Alcos.
Such as if they get placed on a train, etc or are seen in transit.

Alcoman, you may want to submit that on the NYS&W forum also. They seem to be watching them like a night watchman in Times Square during a power outage.

Luther, why did they store #20 in Lakeville? Is it because the place is full of other units getting serviced?

Number 20 is serviceable but could use some new wheels. It still runs and could be used if absolutely needed.

Good news everyone...

From one of my very reliable sources:

SIXX 73 is to be sold to the WNYP.

RRPX has purchased all eight C/M636s from the NYSW. Three of the 636s will be sold to ALCO-C. ALCO-C has an option to buy a fourth unit.

ALCO-C will be leasing three 636s to the WNYP.
