Railroads left out of search for Phillips

FALCONER - As the New York State police “lock down” the Southern Tier in the search for Bucky Phillips, railroaders wonder why they haven't been contacted.

Bill Burt, president of the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad, which operates primarily in the Northern Pennsylvania, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties and northward, said yesterday amid rumors Phillips had left the area on a train, said he had no knowledge of anything like that.

“He doesn't need a train to get anywhere he's going,” Burt concluded. He added that when he heard recently the state police had locked down Cattaraugus County and put up road blocks in the search for Phillips, he wondered why his company hadn't been contacted.

“The railroad would be another way out of town,” Burt said.

However, with the cinch tightening around the Ceres, Olean and Portville areas, the train serving that area is the Norfolk and Southern. The state police set up roadblocks around the Portville area yesterday in an attempt to locate Phillips who was reported to be in the area after a pharmacy was broken into.

Rudy Husband, media spokesperson for the Norfolk and Southern said, “We're aware of the situation, but we're not actually involved.”

Husband went on to say that Norfolk and Southern has not been contacted by the police to be on the look out. He added that no special precautions have been put in place.

Lets hope they get this guy before he does any more damage or loss of life. Watch out while railfanning or working these areas until he's nabbed.
