A step to upgrade the merge at CP Cass is under way. Signals are being placed at the Almond Dam and also in Almond. The new signal will improve the approach to the merge at Cass St. in Hornell. Up by the dam the crew was working today with a mini excavator and a truck. A trench is running along the ROW and a spool of cable is also being put in place in the trench. Seeing the excavator setting crosswise on the rails and bobbing as it worked, appearing precarious, was an oddity. But it was a day for oddities, in Hornell on the Buffalo line setting waiting for the green signal was NS 8765 with a female operator. Can't say that in 46 years I have ever seen a lady at the helm before.
