My girlfriend just picked up a Adlake Kero lantern that is marked CA&E RR on the top. I am assuming it is Chicago Aurora & Elgin Rail Road. I did find a Central Arkansas & Eastern, but seeing that I am just north of the Illinois boarder I have a better chance of it being Chicago Aurora & Elgin. The bottom is marked 2-42 I assume this is a date? There is no globe. Did these have marked globes? And what is this thing worth?

Thanks,

Will

Things are only worth what you can get someone to give you for them.

Really??? That don't help. How much will you give me for my Iowa Central lantern then?? I know what that one is worth so don't pull anything.

Without the globe and if not badly corroded, the lantern may be worth between $50 and $75.

Well, how hard would it be to find a marked globe? And how much will that run me? I can't find anything on the web for them.

Thanks for your help.

Try contacting the following museums for info on where you might find an etched globe:

http://www.foxtrolley.org/

http://www.irm.org/

Both have CA&E equipment, and may know sources for lantern globes.

Also Ruby Lane lists railroadiana on line: Look under collectibles/railroadiana and also lighting/lanterns

Good Luck.

Sorry about that, I had just gotten home from a pub crawl and was, well, in a different mental state at the time.

I understand. And sorry about jumping at you too. There are so many road names out there and was just hoping this one was worth lots. Doesn't really matter, I am not selling it anyways. Now time to find a globe. :-D
