I am considering taking a trip on VIA next week while I am spending time in Montreal, and would appreciate VIA's radio frequencies so I can add them to my scanner. I have fond some great resources for Amtrak's, but NONE for VIA. Can anyone here help me out, please?

Thanks.

VIA uses 160.200 for all communication between the Service Manager and the head end. A bit more information can be found in an earlier topic also titled VIA Radio Frequencies.

Thanks, both replies were helpful. One more question: If I do take this trip, it will be between Montreal and Quebec city; does anyone know who the host railroad is for this line? Thanks.

Oh, also, can anyone point me to any official websites regarding scanning legality in Canada? I am paranoid that they aren't as liberal regarding this issue as the US is and that my scanner might get confiscated at the border (I will be entering the country on the northbound Amtrak Adirondack). Thanks again.

The host railway for all VIA trains in the Quebec City-Windsor corridor is CN, except for a few segments which are: GEXR on the line between Georgetown and London Ontario, CPR between Brockville and Smiths Falls Ontario, and those lines approaching Ottawa, which are owned by VIA itself.

CN's radio frequencies between Montreal and Quebec City are 161.415 for train to train and 161.205, 160.935, 160.665, and 160.545 for the RTC (dispatcher).

Scanner laws in Canada are quite liberal and only Manitoba has any restrictions on their use. There's no need to worry about your scanner being confiscated unless you commit a robbery or do something else illegal.
