I (me - Nessman and SST) caught the same train from the air during a day of aerial railfanning.
The train was definitely moving along at track speed and the UP/SP power was
a nice surprise. The picture were taken somewhere between Salamanca and
Olean from about 1000' above the ground. See links for pictures.

From the air, we followed the WNYP from Falconer to Hornell. Compared to a
similar flight we made about 4 years ago - the difference is amazing.

Haven't seen or heard a train on the WNYPRR's Olean-Hornell section since Saturday's UP/SP powered WB coal empty. For about the last month we have had 2-4 trains per diem. Has NS decided to go back to the Tier for coal drags? Are more to follow?? Anybody here have info to share??

Keep on trainin'

Have there been any freight or van trains on the Meadville Line??
What river is that in the photo?

If you check wnyprr.com, you'll see a pic of 12T detouring over the WNY&P mainline between Olean and Hornell. To the best of my knowledge, no intermodel has yet made the trip.

Also, end-to-end traffic (Meadville - Hornell) is exclusively NS, unit coal trains and returning empties.

Hornell is listed as a WNY&P interchange, but I don't believe any revenue cars have been exchanged there yet.

More WNY&P info, as well as not a few pics, can be found here:

http://forums.railfan.net/forums.cgi?board=WNYP

and on Les' Yahoo-based LAL forum.

I believe it's the Allegheny River between Olean and Salamanca.
