Now here is a story you don't hear often.

http://turnto10.com/news/local/amtrak-s ... on-project

A real estate developer who bought the former Pontiac Mills property in Warwick RI discovered an old railroad passenger car hidden away on a siding in a thickly wooded area of the property.

The car is a former New York Central 64 seat coach (Pullman class of 1946) later converted to a 50 seat snack bar coach, later owned by Penn Central and Amtrak, retired circa 1977, when it would have been displaced by Turboliners and Amfleet cars. Sorry, no car number is visible in the images of the car.

I might have enjoyed a burger and a beer on that particular snack bar coach during my Empire Service trips as a student in the early 1970s, behind P-2B motors, FL-9's and E units!

That trip is scheduled to be the final excursion for the E units.

Per a friend, it would cost Mr Levin about $100,000 for each E unit to have PTC installed.

A real shame that I have to forward this message. The trip has been canceled.

For those who may be interested, here is a link to the joint AAPRCO and RPCA response, dated 4/30/2018, to Amtrak on the matter of their recent policy changes adversely impacting private car operations on regularly scheduled trains and charter special trains.

Private cars Salisbury and Colonial Crafts went up to Boston, MA - South Station this past weekend, it left DC yesterday morning on Train #162 and it left this afternoon from Boston on train #149. The owner gave me a wave I saw train #149 in South Norwalk, CT.

Everyone: Just watched #3 go through La Plata, MO - the seven cars are Caltrans Comarrows that
are headed back to California from the east...I found it clever that they used the NJT slash angle
as part of the Caltrans color scheme. It amazes me how many lives and owners that these cars
have had now that they are approaching 50 years old (1969 vintage St.Louis cars that originally
were PC/NJDOT MU cars) and are some of the oldest passenger cars in regular service...

The La Plata Virtual Railfan camera has a 4 hour rewind - look back at about 21:10 (or 9:10 PM
CDT) to watch #3's station stop. The 7 cars will be visible at the rear of the train as it leaves LAP.
