while taking metra on the bnsf line to chicago union station, while taking that corner, in which you end up facing the yard, while we were heading into the station(before inside the station, behind metra maintenance facility), i saw a union pacific dash 9, come by out train headed southbound away from the station, can someone explain why a UP train was at chicago union station, when its all amtrak/bnsf/metra?
thanks

UP has nothing to do with Union Station. We run out of out of the old CNW station now called Olgivie Station which is across the street. We are contracted to run the commuter service on the old CNW lines. The UP power you may have seen probably came of the one the detour of Amtrak #6. Around that time for few days they ran over the UP between Omaha and Chicago for the use of cab signals. The Engine may have been going back to UP since Canal St. and Global 1 aren't far away.
