I posted this on the New England Railfan message board as well.

I was wondering. How was the Yankee turned at the endpoints it served?

Bangor
Portland
Boston
Troy (endpoint for the "Minuteman")
Littleton (was this the endpoint for the "Montaineer"?)
WRJ (was this the endpoint for the "Cheshire?)

Troy, Boston, Portland and White River Junction all had or still have wye
tracks that could be used in turning this equipment.

In its initial routing as the Flying Yankee with the noon time or 1 pm
Boston-Bangor departure with late afternoon-evening return, the streamliner loaded in Bangor and backed to Northern Maine Junction and wyed there and took off for Boston.

In its Minuteman role from about 1952 to 1954 on SUNDAYS, it came in from Troy wyed behind the BET and backed into North Station. It then took a 1 pm local via Woburn Loop to Lowell. It had to have turned someplace in the Lowell area, took a return local back to Boston and wyed back into North Station and handled a 4 pm Lowell local. Find a North Station Track and Yard book for specifics of the Boston action. These were issued with on employee timetable change dates and bear the same numbers as the corresponding employee tt.
