Bombardier Transportation reached an agreement with TTA Systems LLC today to purchase the company's railcar overhaul division, as well as specific railcar overhaul contracts, an announcement from TTA said. A dollar figure on the deal was not released.

“TTA will continue to dedicate its efforts towards the operation of TTA's components division and new railcar division located in Hornell,” said Dave Sharma, TTA chairman and chief operating officer, in a prepared statement. “Over the years, TTA has built its railcar division and components divisions to be a leader in the passenger railcar business.

The acquisition is only for TTA's Kanona operations, and won't affect the Hornell office, according to James Griffin, City of Hornell Industrial Development Agency executive director. He said the IDA has been involved in the negotiation process for the past six months.

“Bombardier is doing one overhaul contract in Dansville, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that move to Kanona,” Griffin said. “Bombardier is famous for opening and closing plants; they are a very difficult company to read.

This looks like more business for the B&H in the future. Last known count was that there were over 26 cars at the Dansville refurb facility that Bombardier is using using the DMM trackage to Dansville.
