"Coal trains stopped trundling over Darby Creek into Exelon Corp.'s Eddystone generating station some time ago, after the utility announced plans to retire its coal-fired power generation units.
By this time next year, a train could begin rolling in daily to Eddystone carrying Bakken crude oil from North Dakota for use at Philadelphia-area refineries...
construction of the Eddystone Rail project would employ about 100 workers, while operation of the train yard would provide jobs for 40 to 50 workers who would off-load crude from the 120 tank cars that would arrive daily for storage and delivery.
To get the oil to refiners, the crude initially would be loaded onto barges, but plans calls for Enbridge to develop pipelines that could carry the crude directly. When fully functioning, the Eddystone yard would take 12 hours to turn around a 120-car train, according to Johnson."
