Regarding train symbols out of Browns, which is correct WPSA31 or WPSA-31? What does the YP and WP stand for in the symbol? Would it be YPSA02 or WPSA02,03, etc?

WPSA31
WPSA33

YPSA02
YPSA03
YPSA22

The W stands for Way freight, the P is for Philadelphia Div, SA stands for either South Amboy or Sayreville. The Y stands for Yard.

The 31 and 33 leave the working limits ( different than yard limits) of Browns yard DCS CLIFF on the east end, and Summer Hill rd on the west end. Thus the Spottswood industries are considered yard work. If a yard crew leaves the working limits of the yard and preforms local work the yard crew gets a penalty payment. All locals have assigned working limits. The 33's limits are west of JG on the Amboy, the 31's is everywhere west of Summerhill Rd and the entire Southern. Extra crews can be signed up as either a W or a Y but not both. IF an extra goes to releive the 31 at Farmingdale it would be a WPSA9x ( usually extra's for Browns start at 91 and count up daily).

Thank you very much! I know I'm getting annoying but I want to make sure I have my info straight. Is the steel train WPSA35? I haven't heard an SA22 but I did notice a crew working the Amboy one afternoon which I hadn't seen before but didn't stick around to hear a designation, would that be it?

There is no more WPSA35 it was the Southern Local and died around 04 or 05. The YPSA22 does the steel mill M-F after 430ish, they come on duty M-F at 1559. On Sundays the SA03 will go to the steel mill in the mid to late morning.

Caught SA22 shoving back to Browns on my way home from work. I'll put my pics up over the weekend.

Who was that in the car when I was crossing Bordentown ave - and said "Railroad Picture Archives" or whatever?
:-)

Same power this week, today's trains out of Browns were SA03?(maybe 02 not 100% sure since they just calling using the engine number), SA 31, SA 33 and SA 22 with OI16 making an appearance here are some photos of 03,31,33.

Remember on Fridays on the SA02 works the SA03 is off.
But actually the train you have listed as SA03 is actually YPPR08. PR08 was sent to Browns to do the Spotswood work becasue SA02 had a full day of yard work.

Thanks for the help Wolfboy. I thought something was up when I saw 4428 working the yard moments before and 4412 coming down the line I was not sure what was going on, on another note I have noticed 02 or 03 works the industries on the west end in the morning it seems.

Yeah SA02 has been doing the industry work in the early morning. In the past this work was done by the SA22 late at night before the SA33 would return.

anyone that's around today - on my way into work - around 9am-9:30am - I saw a hi-railer truck heading east into Browns. For once I didn't have my camera :(

Odd thing - it was a truck w/ a large tank on the back - possibly for spraying defoliants or for mosquitoes or something. Private contractor looks like - as it didn't have CR/CSX/NS markings.

Anyone know wtf it was and what it was doing?

4428 was on yard duty too.

Looks like the OI power left last night. A GP40-2 (can't remember the #) was in the front, w/ 1701 and 1705 - and CSX4428 was in the rear.

Drove past Browns this morning.
CSX 8828 had a long line of cars behind it this morning around 9:30am facing east.

4412 was sitting in the yard by the office.

This crappy weather isn't good for pics.
