The whole family is invited to the Downeast Scenic Railroad’s Touch A Train Day. Join us Saturday June 21st from 9am to 12noon rain or shine at our Washington Junction railroad yard located just north of Ellsworth. Admission is free. Here’s your chance to get up close and see a fully restored operating railroad. We will have our passenger train and a freight train on display. You can tour the engine, the coaches and the caboose. Kids of all ages are invited to sit in the Engineers seat behind the throttle of our locomotive. Maintenance of way equipment used to repair and replace rails and ties will also be on display. Engineers, Conductors, and the railroad volunteers will be on hand to guide you through the displays and answer questions. You can go for a free ride in our caboose through our rail yard. During the Touch A Train event you can purchase special advance sale tickets to that afternoons regular Downeast Scenic Railroad excursion and save two dollars per person on the regular fare. The New England Steam Corporation will display the bell from Maine Central steam locomotive #470. The group is restoring the steam engine currently located in Waterville. The Hancock Fire Department will have their fire truck on display. So come join us Saturday June 21st from 9am to noon for the Downeast Scenic Railroads Touch A Train Day.
