I spent last week in Pepin, just west of the Chippewa River and the tracks that cross rte 35 at right angles in the bottomlands. Based on a brochure I saw in a nearby town, a local speeder club uses part of the line that is farther away from the Mississippi river (on the highway east/compass north side of rte 35, in other words) and offers public rides for birdwatching and the like in May or June and in September.
