Don't know if anyone has stumbled across this before... City of Philadelphia's website has a picture archive of city owned pictures. If you put in railroad as the search criteria, it comes up with about 250 pictures of railroad related stuff. http://www.phillyhistory.org/PhotoArchive/Search.aspx
There are some neat old pictures from when the Broad Street Subway was built too.

I live a block from the CSX track that goes under Pennsylvania Avenue. It's really amazing (and as a railfan, sad) to see how many tracks used to use the "city subway:

An old friend of my parents' was a MOW foreman for the Pennsy and then for Amtrak. He has a giant framed print of the bird's-eye "before" and "after" drawings for the grade separation project of that Pennsylvania Avenue subway. I used to look at it every time we visited and I can still see the female pedestrians in the drawing with their big poofy skirts, since that project happened when, about 1900?
